Forgive me, I'm a newbie at this stuff. While I feel technically competent enough to actually replace my equipment, I just would like to know if this will work and which to buy.
I currently have a MOCA network, with Frontier FiOS as my service. My specific services include Voice, TV and Internet. 3 Coax connections from my ONT to various rooms in a 5 bedroom, 2 story house. It had all worked fine, but I think my MOCA devices are failing. I'd been using Actiontec MoCA Wireless APs (WCB6200Q x 2), one in each other room with a Coax lead. A short list of what I want to do:
Replace FiOS Quantum G1100 Router
Replace WCB6200Q devices
Keep FiOS TV working the way it would be working, as if I kept FiOS equipment
A couple of things I don't understand:
How many GoCoax devices would I need in my setup? For each Coax lead, I have a FiOS DVR or STB, and a splitter and multiple wired ethernet connections.
Which GoCoax devices would I need within my network and where? I'm talking specifically these models: 803M, MA2500C and MA2500D. I'm not sure of the difference between each and which I'd need and why.
Router swaps always seem simple until you factor in compatibility with MoCA setups, especially when ISPs like Fios or Spectrum are involved. A friend ran into odd latency after switching out the G1100, and it turned out to be related to how the new router handled coax passthrough. Spectrum users dealing with similar issues might find https://spectrum.pissedconsumer.com/review.html useful—it covers a range of feedback on equipment, signal stability, and how their support responds when things don’t work as expected right away.
